At Methow Okanogan Beaver Project, we believe that community engagement is key to building more sustainable, resilient, and biodiverse watersheds. Through our education and outreach programs, we work with people of all ages and backgrounds to explore and share watershed ecology, beaver biology, beaver-based stream restoration, beaver coexistence strategies, and beaver relocation. We host field trips and provide classroom programming for local pre-k through 12th graders, provide hands on restoration and research experiences for undergraduate and graduate students, engage with our community at public events, facilitate workshops for ecology and restoration professionals, and provide support and knowledge-sharing with other beaver-related groups across the continent.
Pre-K through High School Education
Methow Okanogan Beaver Project provides classroom- and field-based programming to grades Pre-K through High School. Our staff collaborate with classroom teachers to develop ecology and biology curriculum that provides students with hands-on learning experiences. From learning about beaver adaptations, building mini dams, and singing about wildlife, to using real scientific instruments and discussing watershed restoration ecology, our education programs are helping to inspire the next generation of watershed stewards.
Contact us if you and your students want to know more about beavers and the watersheds we live in.
College Field Experiences
We provide half and full day field days for undergraduate and graduate students to experience beaver biology and ecology, low-tech processed-based restoration, beaver coexistence techniques, and field data collection. We prioritize building relationships with students and instructors that often lead to internships and research partnerships down the road.
Are you a student or educator looking to connect? Contact us to set up a field day or learn more.
Public Events
Every year, MOBP participates in various local community events. We look forward to these opportunities to connect with our community, answer beaver-related questions, promote the ecosystem benefits beavers bring, provide coexistence suggestions to landowners struggling with beaver conflicts, and lead beaver-themed games, activities, and art projects. Some of our favorite activities are "pin the adaptation on the beaver", hands-on show and tell with beaver skulls, pelts, and tails, and beaver sculpting with modeling clay.

Workshops for Restoration Professionals
MOBP offers hands-on workshops, classes, and site tours to wildlife and watershed restoration professionals who want to implement process-based restoration, promote coexisting with beavers, and develop skills to relocate beavers. MOBP established many beaver handling and relocating techniques in use today and we openly share our knowledge to the beaver restoration/relocation community through hosting events from one-day trainings to comprehensive multi-day workshops.
Visit our events page to view upcoming workshops or contact us if you're interested in scheduling a session.
Guidance for Beaver Organizations
MOBP has a long history of beaver restoration and we believe in sharing our collective knowledge and experiences with other beaver relocators and restoration organizations. We do so by actively contributing to the growing body of scientific knowledge through academic and professional presentations, hosting graduate research students, sharing restoration co-existence strategies, providing hands-on trainings and workshops, and actively participating in the Washington State and National Beaver Working Groups. We're proud to be beaver-restoration leaders in our region, and provide support and guidance to beaver-related organizations across the continent.
